While I am all in favor of supporting the book industry, I also recognize there are many reasons to also support e-books (the environment being a primary one). Cory Doctorow has been a long-time supporter of the Creative Commons movement and has made all of his books available for free download.
Check out Little Brother for free.
And then send the author some email telling him how great it is. He'll answer you, just like he did me!
